Art by Helga Stentzel. Helga spent her childhood in Siberia where entertainment was limited. A black-and-white television with one channel and a few books . She learned how to entertain herself.
As it turned out, that kickstarted her creativity. She was free to let her imagination run wild. A carpet hanging above her bed became a magical landscape where dragons made of flowers would appear in patterns. Knots in the wood floor became bears. Everything potentially could become something else. The list was endless.
For many years, she kept these discoveries to herself. Then, in 2016, she began sharing them on social media. The responses were great. They gave her the confidence to take her ways of viewing the world seriously — pursue as a creative practice.
Helga says, “I am continually fascinated when something ordinary becomes extraordinary through a slight shift in context like an added brushstroke or unexpected background. My creations all share the same origin: attention to the unnoticed and a desire to reveal the magic hidden within.”
