Dear Steve,

Wonderful picture of clouds. Surely this will be a good thing to discuss at Dull Men’s Club meetings, especially the fascinating names of the clouds: mammatus underneath cumulonimbus, cumulus, altocumulus, stratocumulus, noctilucent, cumulus humulis, cirrus, cirrostratus, cumulus factus.

One set of clouds is described as “breasts.” These are the “mammatus” clouds, which are pictured above. “Mannatus” is the Latin word for “breasts.” (That’s probably more information than a dull man needs to know.)

There is of course the granddaddy of Appreciation Societies, the Cloud Appreciation Society. Click here to get to its website. And click here to get to our coverage of the Cloud Appreciation Society on our Appreciation Societies page.

Regards,

DMC
