Look at in the letters and markings spotlighted in the picture above. After the word “Happiness,” is that a period? Or untended spot of ink?
It appears right after the phrase “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” It creates the impression that the list of self-evident truths ends with the right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Some say that what comes next is just as important: the essential role of governments — “instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed” — in securing those rights.
