Let’s take a break for background info (trivia?):
Traditionally, 12 Days of Christmas was the opposite of what we think now. It came after Christmas.
Advent season begins the fourth Sunday before Christmas, continues for a month — a feeling of expectation, praying, singing hymns — waiting for the coming of Christ. Christmas Day, December 25, usherd in 12 days of celebration — beginning December 26 and ending January 6 with the Epiphany feast.
Now we think of 12 days as leading up to Christmas — Christmas music, visits with Santa, office parties, lotsa ads.
How about we think of it as 12 days to shop for gifts — to ponder (dull men like to ponder) and to find best deals? So many gifts to choose from now, more than ever before.
