I believe a dull man would not feel the need for weapons, except as a tool for hunting or defending himself against more excitable men. (Sadly, it happens that many excitable men like to expend their excitement on dull men, believing themselves safe from rebuttal.)
That being said, dull men appreciate people educating themselves on maters of safety, especially so when such dangerous tools as firearms are involved. Remember: Never point a firearm at anything you don’t want to destroy. The gun is always loaded, especially when you have just unloaded it. Assume the safety is broken: use it anyway.
