Oct Pea Throwing

This event — an event that especially appropriate for those who find pea shooting to be too exciting — normally takes place the first sunday of October. In 2013 that would be Sunday 6th October. This year, however, it’s taking place on 13th October.

The event’s organizers say If you’re no good at pea-shooting, you might like to try throwing peas.

In this little-known sport, which began in the 1990s, each contestant throws three peas down Castle Ditch Lane next to the pub. The winner is the one whose pea travels the furthest.

Peas rolling along on the ground counts the same as flying peas.

If your pea falls down a grating, you are allowed a second attempt.

You don’t need to bring your own peas. Peas, frozen peas, are provided by the event;s organizers.

Record distance: 44 meters.

Entrance fee: £2.50 for adults and £1 for children.

The event lasts about an hour. Then have a meal. Fish and chips—with mushy peas of course.
