Split Pea Soup Week began in the U.S. in 1969. It’s always the second week of November. That’s when peas have had enough time to dry and the weather is cold enough to enjoy a bowl of warm soup.

Split pea soup exists around the world. In the Netherlands it’s called ‘snert.” In France “faubonne.” In Hungary “sargaborsoleves.”
