The championships return to the Fennin Farm, Athy in County Kildare, again this year as last year’s events there were such a resounding success both from the quality of the land for ploughing and for the accessibility for exhibitors and visitors. Athy is one of the best tillage belts in Ireland.

The sport of ploughing began hundreds of years ago. It wasn’t until 1931, however, that the first recorded ploughing championships were organized in Ireland. There were 40 entries. The National Ploughing Association was born. The championships have continued ever since. And have grown. Now there are over 300 competitors from 32 countries.
