Ben Franklin wanted turkey instead of eagle for America’s National Bird
On January 26, 1784, Benjamin Franklin sent a letter to his daugher in which he expressed his displeasure with the choice of the eagle for the suymbol of America. Franklin wanted the turkey:
We have discussed this at our DMC meetings. The majority of us agree with Franklin. Turkey are duller than eagles, we think. Turkeys are more stable, methodical, and reliable. Unlike eagles, turkeys don’t soar and fly over a wide horizon.
