There were 2,621,514 goats in the US as of 2012 according to the most recent goat census released released the other day by the Department of Agriculture.
If goats were a state, in terms of population that state would be bigger than Wyoming, Vermont, D.C., and North Dakota combined.
It appears that Texas has the most goats and Alaska the fewest. So at least when it comes to goats the song “The Eyes of Texas Are Upon You until Alaska Took Them Away” does not apply.
