‘Southern rail: Passengers face fresh strike delays‘ — BBC News
Are rail guards/conductors about to lose their jobs? We hope not.
We hate to see what are generally regarded as dull jobs — clicking tickets, providing timetable information, opening and closing doors — disappear. Too many dull jobs have already been eliminated, often replaced by computers.
They should do it Japanese style. At the movies there’s a ticket buying machine that replaced the ticket girl behind the counter, so you put the money in the machine and then two snapily dressed ticket machine assistants take the ticket out of the machine, place it in your hand and bow. The Gods of efficiency are served.
