International LEGO Day commemorates the date—January 28, 1958–the patent application for LEGO bricks was submitted in Denmark by Godtfred Kirk Christiansen, son of LEGO founder Ole Kirk Christiansen.

The LEGO Group, a Danish company (LEGO System A/S) in Billund Denmark, was founded in 1932. It is a privately-owned  company that has passed from generation to generation by the Ole Kirk Kristiansen family.

LEGO is an abbreviation of two Danish words, leg and godt. It means play well.

Adults like playing with LEGO bricks too

The feel and sound of the bricks clicking
together is pleasing, at least for dullsters.
