Battery Day is February 18, the birth anniversary of Alessandro Volta, inventor of the electric battery. He was born on February 18, 1745 in Como, Italy.
A physicist and chemist, he discovered that chemical energy changed into electricity when various chemicals rare brought together in a specific order. An electric current is generated when electrons travel from one plate of chemicals to another plate of chemicals.
The word “batttery” was coined by Ben Franklin in 1748 to describe his array of charged glass plates.
