This event — an event that may be appropriate for those who find pea shooting to be too exciting. Or, if you’ve tried pea shooting but are no good at it, you might like to try pea throwing.
The event takes place every year the first sunday of October but sometimes it’s the second Sunday of October. This year, it’s taking place on the 12th of October.
In this little-known sport, which began in the 1990s, each contestant throws three peas down Castle Ditch Lane next to the pub. The winner is the one whose pea travels the farthest.
Peas rolling along on the ground count the same as flying peas.
If your pea falls down a grating, you are allowed a second attempt.
You don’t need to bring your own peas. Peas, frozen peas, are provided by the event;s organizers.
Record distance: 44 meters.
Entrance fee: £2.50 for adults and £1 for children.
The event lasts about an hour. Then have a meal. Fish and chips—with mushy peas of course.
