Women’s Equality Day — August 26
August 26, the date in 1920 the 19th Amendment, which prohibited sex as a basis for voting discrimination, became part of the U.S. Constitution, is celebrated every year as Women’s Equality Day.
This day was designation an official holiday in 1974. New York Congressoman Bella Absuz’s bill for this designation became Public Law 93-382 in August 1974.
