From “Buy Nothing Day”
July 22, 2011
Dear DMC,
Here in Canada we have a day called ‘Buy Nothing Day’ on which one is supposed to, well, buy nothing.
I am proposing to the Federal government a national ‘Do Nothing Day’ which oughta be self-explanatory, and perhaps our Prime Minister and your President could meet over a beer (Molson’s or Bud, nothing exciting) and make it one of those bi-national holidays, like Christmas.

Let us not be particular, let us be universal
There is no reason to be particular about a Do Nothing Day. Why not make Do Nothing Day / Jour à ne Rien Faire a more extensive Canadian holiday in the first place? Then why not give this otiose day a bigger span, bigger than Christmas, and call for a World Conference of Dull Leaders over a beer, a glass of table wine, or a cup of tea?
