A day set aside for checking batteries in our smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, HVSC thermostats, audio/visual remote controls, and other electronic devices.

It’s listed in Chase’s Calendar of Events as taking place the same day clocks change to Daylight Saving Time in the spring. We see no reason not to have it also on the day clocks change back to normal time in the fall — belt and suspenders.

Smoke detectors are especially important to check. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the U.S., someone dies in a fire every two hours.
